Effendy spent over two decades at CIMB Group, where he last served as Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") of Group Consumer and Digital Banking until his resignation in 2025. In this role, he led the bank's regional consumer franchise across ASEAN, including retail segments, products, channels, and digital banking initiatives in multiple markets. He also oversaw CIMB's digital investments and partnerships, previously as CEO of CIMB Digital Assets, which included Touch 'n Go and TNG Digital. Prior to that, he was CEO of Group Ventures & Partnerships, driving new revenue streams, strategic investments, platform partnerships, and managing the Group's digital banking franchises, while also overseeing CIMB's regional asset management and investment businesses across public and private markets. Earlier roles included CEO of Group Commercial Banking, leading SME and mid-sized corporate banking across the region, and Group Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, where he shaped CIMB's regional brand and communications strategy. Effendy began his CIMB career in Investment Banking focusing on corporate advisory and origination, and earlier worked in corporate development roles across Asia Pacific involving private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and business expansion. He had also served on several boards including as Chairman of CIMB Vietnam and TNG Digital, and as a board member of Touch 'n Go and Mastercard's Asia Pacific Advisory Board. |
